Tom Clancy s Ghost Recon: Frontline: Not a free Battle-Royale

Ubisoft Entertainment SA (; French: [ybisɔft]; formerly Ubi Soft Home entertainment SA) is a French computer game business headquartered in the Montreuil suburban area of Paris, with several advancement studios across the globe. Its video game franchises consist of Assassin s Creed, Far Cry, For Honor, Prince of Persia, Tom Clancy s, Just Dancing, Watch Dogs, Rayman, and Rabbids.

In the Ghost recon universe, the house blessing hung a little bit wrongly. The latest offshoot, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint from 2019, was quite clean. The title simply lacked so pretty much about what the tactic shooter series has been awarded so far. Instead, the makers prefer to trust experimental new game elements: online forced, heap of microtransaktions and a semi-yarn inventory system, which suddenly based on random loot. Understandably, this did not taste the fans at all. Breakpoint was crammed with Miesen User Austria and a historically bad metascore of 58!

So developers of ubisoft have something to do well. And they obviously want them! As part of a large celebration for the 20th anniversary of the Ghost recon series, a new offshoot was announced: Ghost Recon: Frontline. That s all the way to do everything better than his predecessor, but mad veterans could push back in front of his head.

Battle Royle with Personal Note

Ghost Recon: Frontline is a pure free-to-play online shooter. So far, just okay. Instead of making the step back to a rather classic gaming experience, which would probably have liked many fans, they present you a pure PVP gaming experience with Battle-Royale elements. Jupp, read correctly. So it s not about taking tactics and teamwork drug cartels, mercenary armies or all nations to the route. Rather, it is the fight man against man, players against players at the center.

In the expedition mode you have to escape via helicopter from the card. However, there are only two landing places. Source: Ubisoft The responsible persons of Ubisoft Bucharest, which, among other things, already participated in the multiplayer modes of the two Ghost reconious predecessors Wildlands and Breakpoint, want to give the game a very own touch, so Game Design Director Alexandru Rais. Unlike it is standard in the genre, there is no ring in frontline, for example, which makes the playing field steadily smaller and also no Permadeath. It s not even about being the last surviving team at the end!

In central game mode, called expedition, it is instead your goal of detecting sensitive secret information and to collect safe. For this you are traveling on a map with a total of 102 players in three teams on a map, looking for Intel, shoots each other over the pile and eventually tries to escape via extraction helicopter.

No story, no NPCs

The island of Drakemoor, on which the whole fun takes place, is about 16 square kilometers big, so from the scope comparable to the pubgmaps Ergangel and Miramar. Also in variety, it should not be lacked in comparison to the competition: the open game world is waiting with four different biodes and over 20 interesting landmarks. Optionally on foot or by vehicle, you explore an excavation site for dinosaur bones or an abandoned amusement park.

Why he is left, the makers did not really want to betray us. To Setting and Story have so far only let you see that Drakemoor has been hit by a kind of environmental disaster and thus turned into a lifelong location. To find the responsible persons and get the displaced islanders back to their homes - that will then be your job. Here and there, there is probably even a few small Cutscenes. NPCs or a comprehensive action sheet may not hope for you. The focus is clearly on the gameplay. This is new: unlike Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Breakpoint sets Frontline on an ego view. This should provide more immersion. Source: ubisoft

without tactics does not work

Here Ubisoft Bucharest puts on the proven trial of military authenticity, tactical action and teamwork. If you want to succeed on your mission, so you do not just have a good eye and fast reflexes, but also a lot of grips. Frontline always offers you different ways to the goal: of course you can simply take the standard route, collect three information snippets, go to one of the two ejection points and request a helicopter there. Since then, however, is displayed for all players on the map, you have to be taken on some resistance. So why did not you wait until another team attracts attention and uses the distraction to remove the second helipad? Or you make up at the beginning of the round at the extraction point, a different team surpasses and lit your cargo shortly before the end. Your game, your decision!

So far, only three character classes were presented with Assault, Scout and Support, but there will probably be even more. Source: Ubisoft The abundance of choices also continues with your character. In Frontline you build a team of so-called contractors, which randomly generates the game for you. Each character has different nationalities, backgrounds and classes. This ensures variety. In terms of classes, the associated Assault, which are presented in long distances, presented scout and support, which supplies the team with equipment and boosts. Each of the three has individual skills, passive perks and special gadgets that can use it to your advantage.

To which include tactical inventories that are unlocked by special ingame targets and then delivered by airdrop. This can be automatic guns, mobile coverage or whole sniper towers, with which you form the battlefield for your favor.

Is that still Ghost Recon?

All good things come from above! In frontline, this may also be mobile coverages or completely sniper towers. Source: Ubisoft About the course of several matches, of course, you always turn off new stuff. With an increasing character level, your access to new equipment, weapons levels will open up new essays. So there is several progress systems that should motivate you to give your best in every match, even if in the end may not be a victory for you. For the future, missions and a battle pass are planned, which supplies you with new content, but must be bought for real money. Somehow, Ghost Recon: Frontline is also financing. As a second pillar there will also be an Ingame shop for cosmetic items. However, this should also be completely optional and offer no playful advantages.

Whether the whole thing is even fun, the developers have already tested several times with per player and content creators. Soon, however, the wide mass is to get the opportunity to play in Frontline. Since October 5, the login phase for a first closed beta runs. The should then start on the 14th of October and next to expedition also include another game mode called Control, which throws you on eight different maps in classic nine-against-nine domination matches.

However, a final release date is not yet known. Ubisoft so far only revealed that Ghost Recon: Fronline for PC, Google Stadia, Playstation and Xbox should appear. Directly to the launching CrossSplay is supported.

My opinion

Whether you can win the fans again? I do not know...

So for me Frontline is only a Ghost recon title from the name. Finally, in terms of gaming experience, the latest member of the Tom-Clancy family is no longer too much to do with the team-based tactic shooter gameplay, which has made the series so far: instead of PVE there is only PVP. Instead of clear story, there is only endless grind in the Battle-Royale Hamsterrad. Instead of third-person, the first-person perspective as in Rainbow Six: Victories. Whether this is the right way to win fans again after the breakpoint debacle? Unfortunately, I m more than skeptical.
